• Support the provision of a stable, comfortable and secure Boarding environment in which students can
develop self-reliance with managed support and guidance
• Establish parent trust in safeguarding their children
• Support the efficient running of the Boarding residence
• Support supervision of day students during online learning
Duties and Responsibilities
Overall responsibilities
• Actively support the vision, ethos, culture and policies of the School
• Promote high standards in all aspects of school life, particularly in student progress
• Comply with the professional duties of the Harrow staff Code of Conduct
• Contribute to a school culture which is positive, purposeful and professional
• Are committed to safeguarding and to promoting the welfare of children and young people
• To be punctual, smartly and appropriately dressed, and to behave in such a manner as is appropriate in
line with the requirements laid out in our Staff Code of Conduct.
General Duties
• Establish close relationships and good communication with all parents
• Support the House Master/Mistress regarding House rules, regulations and routines
• Adhere to security and safeguarding procedures
• Supervise student waking up and bedtimes and at other designated duty times, including evening and
weekends (on rotation)
• Support the provision of evening and some weekend activities for boarding students
• Promote good manners and courtesy from students including use of the common language of English
• Keep any necessary facilities records up to date and organised
Health and Safety
• Keep boarders healthy and safe, in line with school policies
• Keep parents informed about their children's health, safety and well-being
• Support the administration of first aid and medicines to boarders by the medical staff
• Maintain close liaison with the medical centre staff at all times concerning pupils, medical protocols and
provision
• Ensure hygiene and cleanliness of boarders (including appearance and uniform) are maintained
• Contribute to a programme of continual risk assessment within the boarding house
• Be familiar with the school’s health, safety and security policies and procedures
• Help report and monitor maintenance and repairs in the house
Other Responsibilities
• Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the House Master/Mistress
• Keep up to date with professional developments and attend relevant training
• Support with the organisation of evening activities and supervise these as per the duty rota
• Attend meetings designed to share information necessary for the smooth running of the School and the
successful delivery of its programmes.
• Lead by example in all professional matters ensuring that all teachers and students observe matters such as
dress, punctuality and mutual support
• Proactively support the induction of students to the Boarding House
• Report any concerns to Hm whether behavioural or for safeguarding for inclusion on the school information
management system
• Ensure necessary preparations are in place for the start and end of terms
